2) How to scale down in AutoCAD?

Answer: Follow these steps to scale down in AutoCAD:

Select an object to decrease the scale by “Window selection method” or “Cross window selection method”.

Then click on the “SCALE” command from the ‘Modify’ panel in the ‘Home’ tab. Or you can type “SC” in the command bar and press Enter.

After that, select base point of your selected object.

The last step is type number between “0 to 1” to scale down.

Press Enter key. And it’s done.

3) How to join lines to polyline in AutoCAD?

Answer: Here are two conditions according to position of line and polyline. Check your condition and follow all steps:

Condition 1: Line and polyline both are located at a 0-degree angle (Straight).

Click on the Modify panel drop-down menu. And select the “Join” command. Or you can type “JOIN” in the command bar and press Enter.

Then select line and polyline one by one and do right click.

Both lines will be join.

Condition 2: Line and polyline both are located at any different angle.

First of all, select the “Fillet” command from the ‘Modify’ panel in the ‘Home’ tab. Or you can type “FILLET” in the command bar and press the Enter key.

Then it will show ‘select object’. Select line and polyline one by one.

Your line and polyline will be joint.

4) How to delete blocks in AutoCAD?

Answer: While creating any drawing, we find many unusable blocks that are created by us. That’s why to delete or remove unusable blocks, use the “PURGE” command. Follow these steps to delete unusable blocks.

NOTE: We cannot delete blocks that are used in the current drawing. We can delete only the blocks which didn’t use in the current drawing.

Click on the “Application Menu” (Logo of AutoCAD) located at the upper left corner of the screen.

Click on the “Drawing utilities” and select “Purge” from all options.

Do checkmark on the “Blocks” and click on the “Purge checked items”.

All unusable blocks which are not used in the current drawing will be removed/deleted.

5) How to update AutoCAD?

Answer: We can Install, Update, and Maintain our Autodesk license from the Autodesk Account or through the Autodesk desktop app (For Windows only).

Follow these steps:

1) From Autodesk Account:

Go at Autodesk website and do sign in.

After that, Go to the Product Updates tray in Autodesk Account to find the updates. If there are any updates, it will show there.

Select and update from here.

2) From Autodesk desktop App(for windows only):

Open your Autodesk desktop app.

Then click on the “My Updates” second icon at the upper left corner of the screen.

6) How to draw an arrow in AutoCAD?

We can draw an arrow very easily by using the “Leader” command available in the ‘Annotation’ panel in the ‘Home’ tab.

Follow these steps to draw an arrow:

Select the “Leader” command from the ‘Annotation’ panel in the ‘Home’ tab.

Now you can draw arrow as per your requirement.

If you can’t see an arrow after draw, then follow these steps:

Click on the Annotation drop-down panel and select “Multileader style” which is the third icon.

One dialogue-box will be open. Click on the ‘Modify’.

Go to the second tab which is “Layer Structure” and increase the scale. Click on the “Ok”.

Then select ‘Set current’ and click on ‘Close’. And it’s done.

If you don’t want extra line in arrow:

Use “Explode” command from the ‘Modify’ panel in the ‘Home’ tab.

Explode your arrow, and delete or erase that extra line.

7) How to change line weight in AutoCAD?

There are two methods to change line weight in AutoCAD:

NOTE: Before changing line weight, turn on the Lineweight icon from the Status bar. Or type “LWDISPLAY” in the command bar and press the Enter key. Then type “ON” and again press the Enter key.

Method 1:

First of all, move all objects in one layer that you want to change line weight by using the Layer command.

Then go to “Layer Properties” from the ‘Layer’ panel in the ‘Home’ tab.

Change the lineweight of that layer. Click on ‘Default’ and select lineweight as per your requirement.

Lineweight of objects which are included in that layer is changed.

Method 2:

Select object and do right-click. Select “Properties” from all options.

A properties dialogue box will open. Change the lineweight from here by clicking on ‘Default’.

Select lineweight as per your requirement and close it.

8) What is AutoCAD LT?

AutoCAD LT is a 2D AutoCAD version. It is so much cheaper than AutoCAD as it has no 3D modeling capability. And there is no Z-axis. AutoCAD LT is looks and works the same as AutoCAD but without 3D modeling operations and other functions.

9) How to deselect in AutoCAD?

If you have made any mistake in selection and selected an object you don’t need, then no need to cancel the command and start over.

Just press or hold down the “Shift” key and select an object that you want to remove or deselect from your selection set. That object will deselect.

10) How to set the scale in AutoCAD?

Fitting your drawing into viewports in paper space is very important for visual communication across what needs to be built. You need to set the proper scale of the drawing. Follow these steps:

Go to the status bar at the bottom right corner of the workspace.

You can see the “Annotation scale of the current view”. If not, then click on ‘Customization’ (three horizontal lines) at last.

If your preferred drawing scale in AutoCAD is not available in the list, you can do the following steps:

To add your own scale, click on the scale, and then click on the ‘Custom’.

For Paper space or view port:

You can change scale from status bar as above after selecting view port.

11) How to calculate area in AutoCAD?

First of all, click on the “Measure” drop-down menu from the ‘Utilities’ panel in the ‘Home’ tab.

Select “Area” from all options.

Then select points of object. Right click-Enter.

It will show the Area and perimeter of the selected points.

If you can’t see the result, press ‘F2’ key.

12) How to remove AutoCAD license from Computer?

If you don’t need AutoCAD or AutoCAD license on your computer, then follow these steps:

Go at window ‘Control panel’ and click on the ‘Programs and features’.

Find AutoCAD in all applications list. And Select it and ‘Uninstall’ it.

If you are uninstalling it, your AutoCAD or AutoCAD will remove your computer.

13) How to create a viewport in AutoCAD?

Click on the “Layout” tab beside the ‘Model’ tab at the bottom left corner of the workspace.

Then click on the “Layout” tab at the top menu bar ribbon.

If you want to create a new layout, then click on the “New” in the ‘Layout’ panel.

Otherwise, click on the “Page setup” in the ‘Layout’ panel. One dialogue-box will open.

Click on the ‘Modify’. One dialogue-box will open.

Set your requirements as PDF, Page size, Layout, Portrait, etc., and click on ‘Ok’.

Then select ‘Set current’ option and close the dialogue-box.

Click on the small arrow beside ‘Layout viewport panel’ and select viewport style as per your requirement. And click on the ‘Ok’.

If you want to create a rectangle viewport, then select “Rectangle” from the ‘Layout viewports’ panel in the ‘Layout’ tab.

And draw a rectangle as per your requirement. You can also create any closed shape as per your requirement. Just draw any shape, like a circle by going ‘Home’ tab.

Then come back to the “Layout” tab and click on the ‘Rectangle drop-down’ menu and choose the “Object” option.

Select your drawn object to make it Viewport. It’s done.

14) How to create a title block in AutoCAD?

Follow these steps to create a title block in AutoCAD in Layout or viewport or in print.

Step 1:

First of all, draw a title block by yourself as per requirement by using the line and Text command in AutoCAD as shown. Select the whole title block and copy it by “Ctrl+C”.

Step 2:

Click on the “Layout” tab beside the ‘Model’ tab at the bottom left corner of the workspace.

Click on the “Page setup” in the ‘Layout’ panel. One dialogue-box will open.

Click on the ‘Modify’. One dialogue-box will open.

Set your requirements as PDF, Page size, Layout, Portrait, etc., and click on ‘Ok’.

Then select ‘Set current’ option and close the dialogue-box.

Step 3:

Paste here the copied title block by “Ctrl+V”.

Adjust it in a page size by using ‘Stretch’ command.

Save template:

Right-click on the “Layout1” name and rename it.

Click on ‘Application menu’ and save it where you want.

You can use this template again and again.

15) How to scale a PDF in AutoCAD while inserting or attaching?

First of all, set your workspace unit the same as the PDF unit.

And the first thing is, give a proper scale in dialogue-box while inserting or attaching a PDF in the AutoCAD.

But if your dimensions are not matching, then you can scale it properly by using ‘scale command’.

Select the “Scale” command from the ‘Modify’ panel in the ‘Home’ tab.

Select whole PDF to scale.

Then select one base-point and select a “Reference” option from the command bar.

Specify the first point and last point of the reference line and give actual length of that reference line as per PDF. Press ‘Enter’ key.

Now all dimensions will match with PDF dimensions.

16) How to change dimensions in AutoCAD?

If you want to change written dimension, then just double click on the dimension. You can edit or change dimension as you want to change.

Click on the ‘Annotation drop-down’ arrow in the ‘Home’ tab.

Click on the ‘Dimension style’ (second icon) from all options. One ‘Dimension style manager’ dialogue-box will open.

Now click on the ‘Modify’ and one another dialogue-box will open.

From this dialogue-box, you can edit arrows & symbol, text, lines, units, etc. of the dimension.

17) How to open bak file in AutoCAD?

The meaning of .bak file is backup file. It is automatically generated file in the backup by AutoCAD once we start working on a drawing.

In case, if we lost our .dwg file, and if you have .bak file, then you can again restore your .dwg file.

Follow these steps to open bak file:

Just right-click on your bak file and choose ‘rename’ option.

Rename the file name as “.dwg” extension.

After rename you can open that file in AutoCAD. And it’s done.

18) What is the default AutoCAD filename extension?

The default AutoCAD file name extension is, dwg.

19) What is AutoCAD MEP?

We can rename the block name as well as the layer name, material name, etc. Follow these steps to rename the block:

Type “RENAME” in the command bar and press the Enter key. One dialogue-box will open.

Click on the “Blocks” in the left panel. All block names will show in the right panel.

Click on the block name that you want to rename.

It will show old name. Type a new block name below that panel.

21) What is AutoCAD 360?

AutoCAD 360 is the design software used for users of smartphones. We can draw, view, and edit 2D AutoCAD drawings through multiple devices. This software is an account-based web and mobile application to view, search, share, edit, and review using cloud storage such as Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.

AutoCAD 360 is previously marketed as AutoCAD WS for iPhone and some other versions such as iPad, and Android Tablets. The nice thing is, this is available free of cost. We can download the application from Google Play (Android), App Store (iOS), etc.

22) How to change point style in AutoCAD?

We are using points in the Divide, Measure, and Multiple points command. By default, AutoCAD shows the points as a small dot. But how to change point style? Follow these steps to change point style:

Click on the “Utility” panel drop-down arrow and select the “Point style” option. The utility panel is located in the ‘Home’ tab.

Or type “PTSTYLE” in the command bar and press the Enter key. One dialogue-box will be open.

Also set the ‘Point size’ and click on ‘Ok’. Point style is changed.

23) How to make dashed lines in AutoCAD?

We can make or draw a dashed line in AutoCAD by using the “Layer” command. Follow all these steps to draw a dashed line.

First of all, click on the “Layer Properties” from the ‘Layer’ panel in the ‘Home’ tab.

Now create a new layer and give it name ‘Dotted line’.

After that, double click on the dotted line layer to make it current.

Then click on the ‘Continuous line type’. One dialogue-box will be open there.

Then click on the “Load” to load other line types. And select line type as per your requirement and click on the ‘Ok’.

In another dialogue-box, select your loaded line type and again click on the ‘Ok’.

Now, close the layer command and draw a line. It will be drawn as a Dotted line.

NOTE: If the dotted line is not showing or the scale is too big/small then select the line and right-click.

Then select the ‘Properties’ option and change the “Line type scale” from the dialogue-box. OR you can type “LTS” in command and press Enter and give your Scale number.

24) How to pan in AutoCAD?

We can Pan in AutoCAD in two ways.

By “Navigation bar”:

The navigation bar is available on the workspace screen on the right side.

You can see Pan Button in this bar. Just click on it and you can pan by holding the left-click.

If the navigation bar is not available then,

Go to the “View” tab and just click on the “Navigation Bar” in the ‘Viewport tools’ panel.

By mouse:

We can Pan by Hold down the scroll wheel (Middle button) as you move the mouse.

If it is not working, then do these two things:

A) Checkout mouse settings in pc or laptop

Go to the control panel and double-click the Mouse icon to open the Mouse Properties dialog window.

Click on the the ‘Buttons’ tab.

Open the Wheel button drop-down list, select AutoScroll.

At last, click on OK.

B) Change setting in AutoCAD:

Type “MBUTTONPAN” in the command and press Enter.”

Then give system variable is set to 1.

26) How to X-REF in AutoCAD?

The simple meaning of X-REF is, ‘External reference’.

Attached X-REFs are links to the model space of a specified drawing file. Changes made to the referenced drawing are automatically reflected in the current drawing when the X-REF is reloaded. The attached X-REFs do not significantly increase the size of your current drawing.

 To attach any external reference, follow these steps:

Click on the “Attach” command in the ‘References’ panel in the ‘Insert’ tab.

One dialogue-box will open. You can attach an external dwg file, image, pdf, etc. from here.

Proper Method:

Type “XREF” in the command bar and press the Enter key. One dialogue-box will be open.

Right-click in the blank space in the dialogue box. Or Click on the “Attach drop-down”. It will show some attach options.

Select dwg, pdf, or image as per your requirement.

Select your file and attach it.

Edit X-REFs:

If you want to Unload or Reload the external reference, then right-click on the file name in the ‘External Reference’ dialogue-box.

If you want to attach X-REF then click on the “References panel drop-down” in the ‘Insert tab’ and click on the “Edit Reference”. Or type “REFEDIT” in the command and press the Enter key.

Now, you can edit your drawing.

After an edit, type “REFCLOSE” in the command bar and press the Enter key. And select the ‘Save’ option.

27) How to rotate viewport in AutoCAD?

Follow these steps to rotate viewport:

Click the layout tab that you want to rotate.

NOTE: Make sure that the VPROTATEASSOC system variable is set to 1 in your AutoCAD.

Otherwise, type ‘VPROTATEASSOC’ in the command bar and press the Enter key.

Then type 1 and again press Enter key.

Select the viewport that you want to rotate by clicking on the boundary of the viewport.

Right-click inside the viewport and select “Rotate”.

Specify one base point and specify the rotation angle at which you want to rotate the viewport.

28) How to add plot style in AutoCAD?

Follow these steps to add plot style in AutoCAD:

First of all, click on the “Application menu” and then click on the Print. Select “Manage plot styles” from the options in the right-side panel.

After that, all plot styles will open. Double click on the STB file in which you want to add plot style. One dialogue-box will be open.

Select the ‘Form view’ tab from the upper panel.

Right-click in the blank space in the ‘plot styles’. Select “Add style” and give the name of the new plot style.

Then do all settings of plot style as per requirement.

At last, click on the “Save & Close”.

29) How to underline text in AutoCAD?

NOTE: We cannot underline text for single-line text. We can underline text for Multiline text.

Follow these steps:

Select ‘Multiline Text’ from the ‘Text’ drop-down menu and create one box in the workspace where you want to write.

Write something as you needed.

Just double-click on the text. The ‘Text Editor Panel’ will open on the top of the workspace.

Select text click on the “U” (Underline) from the ‘Formatting’ panel.

30) How to open a DWF file in AutoCAD?

What is DWF file?

A file with the DWF file extension is an Autodesk Design Web Format file created in the CAD software. It is a compressed version of a CAD file that is useful to view, print, and transmit the design and with no need to understand how to use the software by recipient.

31) How to change the cursor color in AutoCAD?

Follow these steps to change the cursor color in thr AutoCAD:

First of all, Click on the “Application menu” (Logo of the AutoCAD) located at the upper left corner of the AutoCAD.

Click on the ‘Option’. One dialogue –box will open.

Follow these steps to open DGN File in the AutoCAD:

Then click on the “Import” option and then click on the “DGN”.

After that, select your file and open it.

33) How to change paper size in AutoCAD?

Follow these steps to change paper size in the AutoCAD:

First of all, click on the layout tab, for which you want to change the Paper size.
